Timeline

In 2008, GUI ran its first Balik Kampung with 10 people in a small corner of Lim Chu Kang

Late founder, Lai Hock wanted to connect city dwellers with nature, with one another and with self

In 2009, GUI moved to Bottle Tree Park and started to build the Sustainable Living Kampung, done through the power of the community

In 2014, GUI was able to convince the authorities that its work is worth supporting and embarked on an ambitious plan to build the Kampung Kampus

15 years & more than 1000 Balik Kampung later (from 2008), GUI has built a 2.6ha nature inspired space that ran over 700 programmes and engaged over 150,000 volunteers and participants

Since GUI started, hundreds of thousands of people have come to GUI for their healing (physically, mentally, and spiritually as well) and connection with nature, people, and self

GUI's current lease at 91 Lorong Chencharu will end by June 2023, making way for housing development

With enough support, we hope to complete Phase 1 of the new space by the end of 2023 so that children, families, and friends can continue to have a space to connect and heal

Since 2008, we estimated to have...

Impacted over

150,000

people

Engaged over

50,000

volunteers

Built a network of more than

550

partners
